The Effect of Knowledge Management on Supply Chain Performance in Offshore Oil and Gas Department Case study: Iranian Offshore Engineering and Marine Construction Company

Supply chain management is now regarded as an effective factor in achieving competitive advantage in different organizations. It can be suggested that it is not the organizations which compete against one another. Rather, it is the supply chains which are competing for extensive markets. Organizations have found out that knowledge is the most strategic source and is regarded as the axis of competition and survival. Knowledge management and its implementation in the supply chain can be viewed as an effective factor in increasing the efficiency of the supply chain. The purpose of this study, which was conducted in the largest and most active company in the field of offshore oil and gas, is to investigate the role of knowledge management in the effectiveness of the supply chain. Based on the research literature, a conceptual model was designed according to which the hypotheses are proposed. The statistical population of this study includes managers and experts of the Marine Construction Engineering Company, 33 people of whom were selected based on the purposive nonrandom targeting approach. Due to the limited number of statistical sample, structural equations and Smart PLS software 2 were resorted to test the hypotheses. According to data analysis, all hypotheses were confirmed and priorities were established on the basis of factor loadings. For knowledge management, it is the knowledge Management Index with the coefficient of 0.612 which is regarded as the most effective, and it is the "knowledge sharing" index with the coefficient of 0.391 which has the least effect on the efficiency of the supply chain. Due to the significant role of maintaining knowledge indicators, we can effectively support supply chain by the establishment of an appropriate information technology and timely storage of knowledge through these infrastructures and systems.
