Determine the future hope of the elderly under chemotherapy in Sabzevar City

Considering the important impact of future hope on the elderly and with the increasing population of cancer patients, the aim of this study was to determine the future hope of the elderly under chemotherapy. This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 100 elderly people with cancer and under chemotherapy, admitted in Shahid Mohammad Vasei Hospital in Sabzevar, Iran in 1394-1399. They were selected by continuous sampling and entered into the study. Data were collected by Omid Miller questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS 21 and descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA and independent t-test. The mean age of the elderly was 68 ± 3 years. The average score of hope was 196 in men and 172 in women. Based on the results, 65% of the elderly under the chemotherapy were at a good level in terms of hope for the future. There was a significant relationship between future hope with sex, education and marriage (P <0.01). According to the findings of the present study, the future expectations of chemotherapy in the elderly were not the same, but the majority of chemotherapy-aged cancer patients had good or moderate future expectations, which is a great pleasure. It is necessary to try to maintain or promote this hope in all stages of treatment
