Identifying and reviewing the military organization replacing the arz divan during the Il-khanate period

With the Mongol’s invasion to Iran, the status of the “Divan-e Arz” (Ministry of the Army) was changed completely, and different administrative, financial and military arrangements were taken by the Mongols instead. The Mongols and Ilkhanate in Iran chose a mechanism in order to replace the function of the “Divan-e Arz” and Muster Master, which could have been, in its nature, proportionate or dissimilar to the administrative traditions in Iran. What were these mechanisms and what was their nature. It seems that the Mongols, in the first place, have abolished the use of the “Divan-e Arz” because of their ability to organize and militarize the army. Then, in the new organization, some of the duties of the “Divan-e Arz” were given to the military and partly to “ologh Bitakchi” and other administrative and financial employees. But sometime after the Ilkhanites reign, especially from the “Ghazan Khan’s” era, there were changes in line with the Islamic-Iranian administrative traditions in this area. These actions, whether wanted or unwanted indicated the “Arz” and “Arez” portfolio’s(minister of army)return in this period, but due to the presence of military emirates and apparently the disagreement between Iranian bureaucrats, the Tribunal could not be fully restored as some of the Iranian administrative elements. This vivid representation is also due to the clever attempts of Iranian bourgeoisie to revive or at least to combine Iranian administrative traditions with Mongolian traditions. This research, by using a descriptive-analytical method, attempts to clarify some of the changes that have been made during the reign of the Mongols in Iran.
