A Review of Woman's Characterization in Iranian Sacred Defense

Women have played a significant role in different movements and campaigns including Sacred Defense. Since cinema is of great role in conveying the importance of their role and real personality, the present paper examines ‘how women are characterized in Sacred Defense Cinema’. Data collection method is documentary including books, articles and movies. A qualitative analysis method was used to describe and analyze women's characterization in the movie ‘Days of Life’. The answers obtained for the question of ‘how women are characterized in Sacred Defense’ show that they have had peripheral presence, mostly as mother, sister, wife, or rescuer behind the fronts, which has changed into cliché. The analysis of the movie ‘Days of life’ shows that it provides a non-cliché picture of women. Finally, it should be said that Sacred Defense Cinema does not deal with all aspects of women's presence.
