Factors Effective in Promotion of the Geopolitical Weight of Saudi Arabia and Its Impact on Iran’s National Security
The world states are in tight competition to meet their national interests and objectives Iran and Saudi Arabia are not an exception. As two regional rivals in the past several decades, Saudi Arabia and Iran have been engaged in great deal of efforts and have been taking advantage of their geopolitical capacity to enhance the scope of their influence in Muslim countries. Both countries' strategy significantly highlights using their geopolitical weight and growing variables of the weight to pile up pressure on each other. Saudi Arabia seems to have been more successful in using such a capacity against Iran. The goal of this article is reviewing the role of Saudi Arabia's geopolitical factors that have been affecting the Islamic Republic of Iran's national security. The article follows the question: What are the geopolitical foundations that have been effective in upgrading Saudi Arabia's weight, and have affected relations between the two countries? What an impact do such foundations have on the Islamic Republic of Iran's national security? The result shows that factors such as Saudi Arabia's geopolitical location as well as the country's energy reserves and incomes, generated as a result, and also the country's central role in the Islamic world have had undeniable role in promotion of its geopolitical weight. Such factors have posed challenges to Islamic Republic of Iran's national security on domestic, regional and global levels.
