Relationship between Heart Disease and Periodontal Diseases
Studies have shown that people with cardiovascular disease have a worse periodontal condition. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between cardiac arrhythmias and periodontal disease (oral and dental diseases).
This article is a review research which is conducted based on library studies and search via Internet databases of MEDLINE, PubMed, SID and Magiran, over the years 2010 to 2017.
Various studies support the effect of periodontal infections on cardiovascular diseases, but it should be noted that these studies are mostly done in men and more studies are needed to get it, especially in women. Risk factors are common in cardiovascular diseases and dental nerve diseases (hereditary, sex, tobacco).
Discussion and Conclusion:
Due to high prevalence of cardiovascular disease and periodontal disease and based on evidences of association between them it’s necessary to preventive and diagnostic acts.
