News Media Authorities’ Perspectives on the Damages to the Local Media in Yazd Province
With regard to the importance of media in general, and local media in particular, it seems necessary to study the problems of the media. The present study attempts to study the media authorities’ perspectives on the damages to the local media in Yazd Province. A survey was carried out in which the data were collected through a questionnaire. 200 people as introduced by Culture and Islamic Guidance Office in Yazd to have been working in local media in Yazd, participated in the study. Cronbach Alpha was used to obtain the reliability of the questionnaire. The content validity of the instrument was also achieved. The data were then submitted to SPSS. The results indicate that there aren’t significant correlations between age, gender and technology competence of the authorities and their perspectives on the damages to the media. However, there was a statistically significant correlation between the respondents’ positions and publication, editions and their viewpoints on the damages in that the chief editor has a more positive attitude than the simple journalist and other staff. The authorities in charge of dailies showed a more negative perspective than those in charge of weeklies. Also there was a significant correlation between education, work experience, position, and job satisfaction and perspectives on the damages to the media in that the higher the education level, the longer the experience and the higher the socioeconomic position, the more negative perspectives were.
