Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Management Training on Pain self-efficacy inpatients with Thalassemia Major
The present study aimed to investigate the effect ofeducation on stress reduction based on mind-awareness onPain self-efficacy in patients with major thalassemia major.
This is a quasi-experimental study with pre -testand post-test design with control group. The statistical population included all patients with thalassemia major whoreferred to thalassemia center of Chabahar Hospital on aweekly basis for treatment and blood donation. In this study,30 subjects have been selected by convenience samplingmethod and randomly were assigned to two groups of 15(mindfulness and control stress reduction) group. Theexperimental groups consisted of eight 60-minute sessionswith Kabat-Zein Mental Awareness Stress Reduction (2013),2 weekly training sessions and a control group in the waitinglist for training. Pain self-efficacy Questionnaire (PSEQ)were used for data collection. Data analysis was analyzedusing frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviationand one-v ariable covariance.
The resultsshowed a significant improvement in Pain self-efficacy bymindfulness training in the experimental group (p<0. 01).
It seems that reduction of mental-based stressis effective in improving Pain self-efficacy in patients withmajor type of thalassemia. It is suggested that, along withmedical therapies, education for the reduction ofmindfulness-related stress should also be conducted
