Comparing the Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Imagotherapy onthe Quality of Marital Life of Married Women with Marital Conflicts
Marital conflicts affect couples' mental health.Accordingly the present study was conducted aiming tocompare acceptance and commitment therapy andImagotherapy on the quality of marital life of marriedWomen with marital conflicts.
The researchmethod of the present study was quasi-experimental withpretest, posttest control group design And a two monthfollow-up period. The statistical population of the current study included all married Women with marital conflicts referring Mahesta, Avesta, Iranian & Armaghan ConsultingCenters in the city of Tehran in 2017. Non-probablePurposive sampling method and random replacement wereapplied. After selecting the sample size (30 women) andreplacing them into experimental and control groups, theexperimental group received ninety-minute Acceptance andCommitment Therapy (8 sessions) and Imagotherapy (10sessions)during three months once a week. However, thecontrol group did not receive these interventions. Theapplied questionnaires in the present study included maritalconflict by Barati and Sana'ie (2006) and Marital adjustmentquestionnaire (Busby et al, 1995). The collected data were analyzed through Analysis Variance with repeated measure via SPSS23.
The results of data analysis showed thatACT and imagotherapy were effective on the quality ofmarital life of married Women with marital conflicts (P<0.001). Moreover there was not observed any significantdifference between the effectiveness of teaching ACT andimagotherapy on the quality of marital life of marriedWomen with marital conflicts (P>0. 05).
According to the findings of the present study it can beconcluded that ACT and imagotherapy have similareffectiveness on the quality of marital life of the womenwith marital conflicts and these two methods can be used toimprove the quality of marital life of these women.
