Psychometrics Properties of Social Well-Being Scale in Iranian Elderly
Today, following the aging population, the elderly have been faced with various social issues. The social well-being and health of the elderly are important but it has been neglected that is closely related to the quality of life. The Social Comfort Scale has not been validated in the Iranian elderly. The purpose of this study was to investigate the Psychometrics properties of Social Well-being Scale in Iranian Elderly.
This is a psychometrics properties study. The participants were 550 elderly people living in Tehran who were randomly selected from health centers. The study was conducted on the Social Well-being Scale. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation test, exploratory factor analysis, and Cronbachchr('39')s alpha via SPSS v.22 software.
Participants were 58.9% male and 41.1% female. The mean age was 66.09 ± 6.67. Alpha Cronbachchr('39')s was 0.94. Structural validity by exploratory factor analysis showed that SWS consisted of five components (social integration, social acceptance, social contribution, social actualization, and social coherence).
Social Well-being Scale has good reliability and validity in Iranian elderly. Therefore, it can be used to assess the social well-being and health of Iranian elderly.
