Management of combating social-individual structures of the causes of drug addiction in Iran; A systematic review of previous studies

The accelerating pace of renovation and modernization of society along with intergenerational divisions and cultural conflicts have caused changes in socio-individual structures of the causes of addiction in Iran, especially in the young generation. The importance of this issue is so great that it has led to an increasing trend in scientific research in various fields of study in the field of drug addiction in recent decades. Due to the thematic discontinuity dominating these studies, the purpose of this article is to summarize the results of these studies in order to manage the combat against socio-individual structures of the causes of drug addiction in our country.

This research has been done as a library research and using meta-analysis method. Its statistical population includes researches that have studied the effective factors on drug addiction in Iran in different fields of study. Selected articles consist of 40 scientific articles that have been published in approved scientific journals and cover the period of 2002-2019. The data collection technique is based on a reverse questionnaire design.

The main causes of drug addiction can be classified into three factors: social structure (54%), family structure (27%) and psychological structure (19%), respectively. The research findings show that the degree of impact of each of these three structures varies according to gender, age and geography.

For effective and efficient management in combating socio-individual structures of the causes of drug addiction in Iran, it is recommended to pay attention to preventive policies based on comprehensive school-based programs and also pay attention to plural subcultures in society based on ethnic, geographical, age and gender features in changing attitudes and improving coping with drugs skills.
