Patterns of work-related behavior and work-family conflict

Abstract:

For most people family and career are two main domain of their life. Studies have shown that employees in the face of job stress and strain, show different patterns of work-related behavior that may be healthy or unhealthy and affect the other aspect of their life. The aim of present study was to comparison of work – family conflict among people with healthy (G: good health pattern, S: sparing pattern) and unhealthy (A: ambitious pattern, B: burnout pattern) Patterns of work behavior. Statistical population were the all of employees of Esfahan Oil Refining Company that 145 of them selected by stratified random sampling and responded to research tools. The instruments were the measure of work–family conflict (Carlson, Kacmar & Williams, 2000) and Work-related Behavior and Experience Patterns Questionnaire (Schaarschmidt & Fischer, 2003). The data were analyzed using one way variance analyze. Results showed that 20 of the sample has G pattern, 29 S pattern, 49 A pattern A and 47 B pattern and G and S types have lower means of work-family conflict than A type (p=0/003). According on the results, the patterns of work-related behavior of employees in the face of their work stress and strain, affect their experience of work-family conflict.Therefore, it is necessary to check employees' behavior patterns and make interventions to modify them.
