Maneuver and Simulation Training is an Effective Method in Nurses’ Preparedness for Disaster

Due to the increasing number of accidents and disasters in the world and the existence of nurses as the largest group responding to such accidents, their readiness to respond to accidents and disasters is very necessary and important. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate studies on effective methods in preparing nurses for accidents and disasters with emphasis on maneuver training.

In this review study, articles published between (2011-2020) were reviewed. In order to obtain relevant scientific documentation, electronic search in both Persian and English using Keywords (Maneuver, simulation, preparation, nurse and training methods) in Academic Database of Academic Jihad (SID), Magiran Database, Iranian Medical Science Database (Iran Medex), PubMed, Science Direct, Ovid, ProQuest and Google scholar. A total of 281 articles were found. 34 articles were extracted from them. Inclusion criteria included originality and research, writing in Persian and English and compatibility with the purpose of study, and exclusion criteria also included not having access to the full version of the article.

Studies have shown that paying attention to accidents and disasters and improving the preparedness of nurses and even other medical staff has a high priority that should be considered in all countries and from the student period. Training is an important and effective method for obtaining information and improving knowledge. Among the training methods, maneuvering and simulation in this field is very common and has been used for various purposes that promote knowledge, skills, competence and readiness of nurses to deal with accidents and disasters have been one of these important goals.

Discussion and Conclusion:

According to the results of studies and the effectiveness of using maneuvering and simulation training methods in improving the preparedness of medical staff, especially nurses, therefore, it is recommended to use this method to improve the preparedness and skills of nurses in the face of disasters.
