Effectiveness of Parent- centered Intervention Based on Gottman’s Meta- Emotional Philosophy on Social Skills in Children with Externalizing Behavioral Problems
present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Parent- centered Intervention Based on Gottman’s Meta- Emotional Philosophy on Social Skills in Children with Externalizing Behavioral Problems. The research design was quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest with control group. The study population included all children 7-10 years with Externalizing Behavioral Problems in Isfahan. The sample included 30 students with Externalizing Behavioral Problems selected through multiple random cluster sampling and divided into experimental and control group. The experimental group participated in a 6 session’s intervention. Child Behavior Check List and Matson Social Skill Questionnaire were used for data collection. The mean of posttest was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (P<0/05) and this indicates the positive effect of parent-centered intervention. This study clarified role and importance of parental meta-emotional viewpoint and it has shown parent-centered intervention based on meta-emotional philosophy improves the social skills of children with externalizing Behavioral Problems.
