Redefinition the role of culture in the design of urban entrances (Case study: entrance of Tabriz, Qom, Shiraz and Mashhad cities)

Nowadays, the identity of any city is known based on the quality of its urban spaces. The entrance of each space is the first place where the general characteristics of the space are discovered. By preparing an entrance for a space, that space finds identity for its inhabitants. Paying attention to the special place of culture in the design and planning of the entrance space of cities is inevitable. Because in addition to improving the spatial qualities of the entrance area, it will showcase the unique identity and culture of the city and will also create a desirable and special mental image of the city in the minds of travelers. The method of the present research is based on an applied purpose and in terms of its nature is descriptive-analytical. The data required for the research have been collected through library study and field survey and in the case study section, the opinions of experts in this field have been analyzed using a questionnaire. The purpose of this study is to recognize the place of culture in the design of urban entrances. Finally, this study examines the dimensions of culture in the entrance design of cities and extracts and introduces the criteria and qualities that can be used in design. It then names the cultural guidelines that can be used to design urban entrances.
