The Relation between Emotional Intelligence and Experiential Avoidance with Susceptibility for Addiction in Students

The aim of this study was to predict students' readiness for addiction based on emotional intelligence and empirical avoidance.

The research method was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all students of Iran University of Medical Sciences who were studying in the academic year 2016-17. The sample size was 150 students who were selected by purposive sampling. The instruments used in this study were the Iranian Addiction Readiness Scale (Zargar, 2006), the Cyber ​​or Schering Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (1990) and the Experimental Avoidance Questionnaire (Hayes et al., 2004). Data analysis was performed from the implementation of questionnaires through SPSS20 software in two descriptive and inferential sections (Pearson correlation, multiple regressions).

The results of statistical analysis showed that the effect of emotional intelligence variable and its components on the regression equation was significant (p <0.01). There was also a significant positive correlation between experimental avoidance and readiness for addiction (p <0.01).

The data of the present study showed that students with low emotional intelligence showed a higher readiness for addiction than students with higher emotional intelligence.
