Achievement Motivation and its Relationship with Rural Youths’ Tendency towards Technical and Vocational Training, Case Study: Qom County

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between achievement motivation and rural youths’ tendency towards technical and vocational training (TVT) in Iran, Qom County. The statistical population of this study included all rural youth 15-29 years old in Qom County (N=4505). A sample size was determined according to Morgan table, using multistage random sampling method (n=380). Face and content validity of questionnaire were confirmed by faculty members of Agricultural Extension and Education Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Gorgan University. Reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed by using SPSSwin21 software. The results showed that the achievement motivation and rural youths’ tendency towards TVT was almost at a medium level. Correlation test showed that there was a significantly negative relationship between age and rural youths’ tendency towards TVT. And there was a significantly positive relationship between youths’ education, father's education, mother's education, achievement motivation, amount of familiarity with TVT and rural youths’ tendency towards TVT. This study recommended implementation training and orientation courses for rural youths and their parents to introduce importance and role of TVT.
