Spatial Analysis of the Relationship between Travel and Tourism with Traffic Accidents in Iran
Travel and tourism have a special place in the lifestyle of human beings today. They travel to diversify their daily lives, avoid stress, and achieve peace, good experiences, and sweet memories in possible opportunities such as weekends, summer, and New Year holidays. Driving accidents can make travel and tourism a bad experience and a bitter memory. The purpose of the research is spatial analysis of the travel and tourism, and the traffic accidents to better plan and manage the spatial and temporal distribution of travel and to reduce traffic accidents.
This research is applied and descriptive-analytical. Spring travel and tourism statistics in the four years 2016-2019 from the website of the Statistics Center of Iran and traffic accident statistics (deaths and injuries) at the same time were used by the traffic police. GIS and SPSS Software used for spatial analysis and statistical analysis.
Findings show a high correlation between the distribution of travel and tourism and driving accidents with a correlation coefficient of 0.702. Travel with accommodation and driving accidents are associated with a beta level of 0.88 and a significance level of less than 5% (sig. = 0.000). The model's fit shows that travel with accommodation predicts 65% of the variance of traffic accidents.
The research results indicate no correlation between the population of the provinces and traffic accidents, and traffic accidents are related to factors other than the population. One of them is the amount of travel and tourism in that province. Analysis of the spatial distribution pattern of travel and tourism and driving accidents based on the Moran index shows a random pattern.
