Investigation of effective parameters in dye removal from effluent of petrochemical industries by Fenton and Electro Fenton methods

Abstract:

Petrochemical industry effluents are one of the most hazardous effluents available, which its release poses serious environmental hazards in nature and contains toxic compounds that are difficult to decompose. Therefore, it is necessary to purify them. In this research, Fenton method was used as one of the advanced oxidation methods for Abadan petrochemical wastewater treatment. The effect and interference of the three parameters of reaction pH and H2O2 concentration and Fe / H2O2 ratio were investigated using the design method of Box-Behnken statistical test with the help of Design Expert software. In order to achieve the maximum amount of paint removal as an indicator of pollution, the optimal conditions by the software as pH = 3/06, the amount of oxidized hydrogen peroxide 8/88 ml per 25 ml effluents, the molar ratio of iron catalyst to oxidant Fe / H2O2 =0/1 was selected. Under optimal conditions, the maximum amount of paint removal was predicted to be 79/56% and testing in real conditions showed a yield of 72/52%, which is acceptable due to laboratory error (0/004>|R2-R2adj|). Also, in order to increase the removal efficiency, electro Fenton method was used as Fenton correction method. Under the optimal conditions of Fenton process, in terms of oxygenated water, pH and current density of 10 (mA), the highest dye removal efficiency was 100%.
