Common Medical Beliefs in Some Literary Texts

Abstract:
The present work attempts to study the examples of common medical beliefs in some literary texts. It also strives to explore and solve some of the predicaments which exist in Farsi literary texts. Firstly, the causes of different types of diseases among various communities and nations are recounted and concepts as wide as the wrath of gods, the entrance of evil spirits into human body and sorcery are treated. Then the author tried to analyse and justify concepts such as subersaut = convulsion, burnt bone, petit mal, marking – nut, madness, and blood - letting these beliefs were derived from the divans of Manoochehri, Sana’i, Mowlavi, Sāeb Tabrizi, Bidel Dehlavi; some were also taken from the works such as: Kalileh-va - Damneh, and Maqāmāt-e Hamidi, some medical sources and references were also consulted.
