The effect of companies' borrowing costs on the asymmetric behavior of general, administrative and selling expenses

Abstract:

In the profit and loss statement, the performance of the business unit for a financial period is reflected. The operating expenses of the commercial unit include the cost of goods sold and administrative, general and sales expenses. Borrowing cost can be a measure for investors to decide whether the company is risky compared to other companies. Because in general, risky companies have higher borrowing costs. Therefore, the aim of the research is to investigate whether the effect of borrowing cost on the asymmetric behavior of sales costs is general administrative. The statistical population of the research is the companies admitted to the Tehran Stock Exchange between 2014 and 2018 and the sample consists of 155 companies, which were estimated using multivariate linear regression and the generalized least squares method, and the results showed that the cost Borrowing has a significant and inverse effect on the asymmetric behavior of sales, general and administrative expenses.
