Analysis of Kharraqan and Samiran Tomb Towers(In terms of Geometry and Proportions)

Mausoleum in Iran ranked second in terms of number of remnants, following mosques. These buildings have long played essential roles in architecture of this country and thus they are worth analyzing from different aspects. In the present study, both Kharraqan and Samiran tomb towers are investigated in terms of geometry and proportions, in order to give a more accurate picture of tomb-construction architecture in Iran. Tomb towers that are one of the most important types of burial chambers in Iran were built to distinguish the height and form of the mausoleum from other adjacent buildings.The methodology used in this study is historical – interpretational method, which in combination with library and field studies were used to compare the tomb towers of Kharraqan and Samiran. In simple terms, this study finds the similarities and differences between these two tomb towers, and meanwhile, these criteria are analyzed: plan, facade, cross-section, arch, dome and golden ratios. Then, each of the mentioned criteria is classified into sub-criteria and the final analysis is conducted.Finally, three-dimensional model of these two buildings is derived based on obtained evidence and it is concluded that both Kharraqan and Samiran towers, while possessing the shared historical, geographical and ethnic elements, they have geometric structure and proportions in common, and in an evolutionary trend, they have been constructed under influence of Samiran towers.
