Comparison of the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy and reality therapy on death Stress, biomarkers of FBS and HbA1c in the elderly with type 2 diabetes

The present study was used to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment and reality therapy based on death stress and biomarkers of FBS and HbA1c in the elderly with type II diabetes.

The research design in terms of practical purpose in terms of the nature of a quasi-experimental study was pre-test-post-test with a control group and random assignment. From the community of elderly diabetic patients (type II) referring to specialized clinics of diabetic patients in Shiraz in 2020-2021, 60 people were selected by purposive sampling method and were replaced in 3 groups of 20 people. Participants in acceptance, commitment, and fact-based group therapy were trained in 8 sessions of 1.5 hours, and the control group did not receive any training. In order to test the research hypotheses, multivariate method and t-test were used for two independent groups.

The results showed that acceptance and commitment therapy and reality therapy had a significant and lasting effect on death stress and biomarkers of FBS and HbA1c in the elderly with type II diabetes (P <0.05). Tukey post hoc test showed the difference between the mean stress of death and FBS and HbA1c biomarkers between the control group and the commitment and acceptance treatment group and the reality therapy group.

Acceptance and commitment and reality therapy can be used to reduce the stress of death and these therapies can be used to improve the biomarkers of FBS and HbA1c in the elderly with type II diabetes.
