Abstract:
Background and objectives

Emotional intelligence is a set of abilities that help employees recognize emotions in themselves and others and perform tasks correctly. The present study aims to evaluate and prioritize the components of emotional intelligence of the employees of the executive units of the Police Command of Qom province.

Method

In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied research type and in terms of the nature and method of data collection it is descriptive-survey, and in terms of time cross-sectional. The statistical population includes all employees working in the executive units of the police command of Qom province, numbering 332 people. The sample size was calculated using Cochran's formula as 288 people. The random sampling method is also employed. The data collection tool includes documentary studies and the standard questionnaire of Bar-On's "Emotional Intelligence ", whose reliability and validity have been confirmed in various researches and calculated as 0.89 in the current research.

Findings

The mean score emotional intelligence of the examined sample is higher than the standard mean score and according to the variance analysis test. This difference is not significant between different educational classes. For example, in the scales of independence, tolerance of psychological pressure, optimism, self-esteem, and impulse control, they have a higher mean score than the standard, and in the scales of happiness, interpersonal relationships and empathy, they have obtained a lower mean score than the standard average. This mean score difference is noteworthy for the scales of interpersonal relationships and empathy. The resulting mean score for the scales of problem solving, self-actualization, emotional self-awareness, realism, self-expression, flexibility, and responsibility is normal.

Results

According to the results of this research, it can be said that the condition of emotional intelligence in the studied sample is good and it needs training in some scales.
