Training based on the Teachings of the Quran on Mental Health in Effectiveness of Life Skills female students of art schools in Sari city

Abstract:
Aim

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of life skills training based on Quranic teachings on the mental health of female students.

Method

The research method was semiexperimental with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included female students of art schools in Sari in the academic year of 98-99. According to Krejcie and Morgan's table, 201 students were selected and answered the mental health questionnaire (GHQ-28) Goldberg and Hiller (1972). Using non-random purposive sampling method, 30 students who received the highest score in this questionnaire were selected as a statistical sample and were randomly divided into two experimental (15 people) and control (15 people) groups. The experimental group received 12 one-hour sessions of life skills training based on Quranic teachings and the control group did not receive any intervention. At the end of the training program, both groups answered the Mental Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) (post-test) and after a month and a half, follow-up was done.

Results

The results of multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) showed that training life skills based on Quranic teachings has increased the level of mental health of female students in Sari art schools (p < 0/01). and increase of school commitment for the students (p < 0/01). The results of following up the scores of the experimental group after one month and a half indicated the persistence of the intervention effect.

Conclusion

Teaching life skills based on the teachings of the Qur'an can create the necessary psychological atmosphere, acquaint students with cognitive, emotional and behavioral processes and enable them to learn how to manage and use cognitive, emotional and behavioral skills.
