A Comparison between the Impact of Positive Psychology and Young Adult-Oriented Mindfulness on Anxiety Management of the National Basketball Players with Disabilities
The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of positive psychology and adolescent-centered mindfulness trainings on controlling the anxiety of Adolescent boys basketball player with disabilities sent to national (provincial) competitions. A Semi-experimental design was conducted (pre-test and post-test) with two experimental and one control groups. For this purpose, the number of 45 Adolescent boys basketball player with disabilities sent to the national competitions of Tabriz (Iran) in 1400-1401 selected as available and then randomly divided into two experimental groups and a control group were included. For the first group, positive psychology training (11 sessions; 2 one-hour sessions per week) and for the second group, adolescent-oriented mindfulness training (8 sessions; 1 session per week, 90 minutes) were applied, and the control group did not receive training. All subjects filled the Beck anxiety questionnaire (1990) before and after the training. One-variable covariance analysis was used to analyze the data. The results showed that the mean scores of anxiety in the disabled basketball boys in the positive psychology training group compared to the adolescent mindfulness training group and in the adolescent mindfulness training group compared to the control group were significantly reduced in the post-test. The results showed that positive psychology training is more effective than adolescent mindfulness training in controlling the anxiety of Adolescent boys basketball player with disabilities.
