Investigate the Role of Taxi in the Intracity Transportation of Tourists Case Study: Mashhad

The main objective of this research was to investigate the role of taxi in the transportation of tourists in the city of Mashhad, using META SWOT Technique. Since the tourism industry plays a major role in the socio – economic development of cities, its requirements should be carefully planned and prepared. In this paper, first the supply and resources of each mode of transportation in the city of Mashhad was evaluated and their priorities was determined. Then, the competitive aspects of these transportation modes was studied and the competition map was developed. The main operating modes in the city of Mashhad were, private car, bus and taxi. Based on the analysis of these models, taxis were the most attractive mode of transportation for tourists. Therefore, the requirement for the Taxis to operate in a proper and effective manner should be met by the city authorities.
