Abstract:

Porpose:

The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of listening to the Quran on postoperative pain in orthognathic surgery candidates.

Materials and methods

This clinical trial study was conducted on patients with ASA I classification who underwent orthognathic surgery. After general anesthesia, the anesthesiologist selected one of the Quran audio files (Q group) or white noise (W group) for the patient with the help of a random number table. After the patient entered recovery, vital signs were measured and the pain level of the patient was measured by visual analog pain index.

Findings

In this study, 40 patients were randomly divided into two groups: Quran (Q) and white noise (W). The average pain in group W was higher, and the two groups had statistically significant differences.

Conclusion

Listening to the sound of the Quran during unconsciousness can reduce pain reported in patients treated with orthognathic surgery after surgery.
