Abstract:
Historical incidents never take place abruptly; there must be some social reasons for their occurance. The event of Ashura that led to the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn and his companions in 61AH/ 680 disclosed the real and disgusting face of the Umayyad dynasty. According to the present study it took place in effect of the contradiction of Islamic vs. tribal traditions. Hence, nepotism was one of the major reasons.
