Investigation and identification of four common missconceptions in 10th grade chemistry
Learners often find studying secondary school chemistry challenging, and commonly develop alternative understandings of the subject, variously labelled by researchers as misconceptions. Misunderstanding is observed not in chemistry but also in other scientific fields and at different levels. Determining students’ misconceptions in chemistry is important for an effective teaching and learning chemistry. in this article, four misunderstandings in tenth grade students have been identified and investigated. The concepts of atomic structure, structure of ionic compounds, difference between compound and element, difference between intramolecular and extramolecular bonds were investigated. CMDT tests have been used to obtain results in these studies. These findings can be used to improve the chemistry education program.
