The elements of CDA in Tarikh Jahangoshay based on Norman Fairclough's approach
Discourse has been used over history in different meanings by different intellectuals. Discourse analysis, as an interdisciplinary method, is used in so many disciplines as linguistics, philosophy, literary criticism, political science, sociology, anthropology, and communication science. The method was introduced as an outcome of studying language by researchers of various fields. Critical discourse analysis (CDA) is consisted of theories and methods that study the relationship between discourse and socio-cultural changes of different social arenas. CDA analysts emphasize that literary texts just like all other texts are used to communicate ideas, so, they can also be analyzed using CDA. This study focused dealt at first with the concept “discourse”, and then the background and different stages of “discourse analysis”. Taking this approach, all related factors affecting the text such as the linguistic and paralinguistic issues (social, cultural, political, and historical conditions) related to the author of Tarikh Jahangoshay, his status in society, and his ideas were explored. Discourse analysis of the author’s socio-political and religious ideas in Tarikh Jahangoshay may help us understand his great work from a new perspective.
