The Shii Ulama during constitiutional Revolution and the Image of Western Domination

Abstract:
This article is an inter disciplinary study of culture and politics that combines insights from political science and the discipline of culture and communication – Based on narious documments and secondary sources pertaining to the period of constitional revolution in Iran, an attempt is made to reconstruct the mental Images that the Ulama had of western Political systems and governmentals. Fear of western domination and its cultural hegemony seemed imminent due to western countrie's superiority in science and technology. Perceptions of such imminent danger created particular images of the west in the minds of Iranian political elite and shii ulama that prompted them to join in one way or anotheres the reform movement which come to be know as the constitutional movement.
