Philosophy of Politics, Bourgeoisie, and the Ultimate Ends of Capitalism According to Rousseau and Marx

Author(s):
Abstract:
Bourgeoisie and liberal capitalistic ways of life that spread gradually throughout 19th and 20th centuries were the consequences of an almost long process. This article, while analyzing the thoughts of two prominent western philosophers i.e Rousseau and Marx, tries to analyze this process and examine the strengths and weaknesses of this kind of life. Quite obviously, Marx harshly condemned bourgeoisie and capitalism and, compared to Rousseau who strenuously combined liberalism with the restrictions of modernism, he had a pessimistic standpoint. Still, they both have adopted a similar reasoning about the origins of inequality, though they recommend two different tactics following the exigencies of time and place. In regard to these similarities, the article criticizes the philosophy and ultimate ends of capitalism.
