Needle Stick Injuries in Nurses in Hospitals Affiliated to Shahid Sadoghi University of Medical Sciences

Introduction& Nowadays, needle stick and injuries caused by sharp instruments are the most treateniy biological dangers in care givers. transmission of fatal diseases such as Aids and hepatitis is the consequence of these hazards. determination of the characteristics and frequency of sharp instruments injuries and related protective measures to be considered in nurses.This was a descriptive study in which questionnaire was used to gather the data and all nurses of mentioned hospitals contributed in this study. regarding our findings 49.7% of the sample group said that they had had experienced injuries within the past 6 months prior to the study. We found meaningful relations between injuries and age, and injuries and work unit, (T=2.01,P=0.04)(x²=46.3 P=0.000), respectively.considering our data those in age between 20- 29 were the most high risk group, and the medical, surgical and intensive care department was known as the most dangerous area,.also needle were shown to be the most hazard producing instruments,it can be concluded that injections are the best way for producing injuries of this kind, 46% of the contributers said that they pressed the injuries area to increase blood loss,18%of them reported the accident. the results obviously revealed that there is a real danger for all nurse team in manipulating instruments, so we strongly recommend teaching sessions and strict supervise in considering protective measures of all kind.
