A study of special libraries acquisition in research institutes in Tehran

The aim of the present research is to study current situation of exclusive libraries and the research institute affiliated to the ministry of science, research and technology in Tehran from the view point of collection to pave the way for determining the distance between the present situation and the suitable situation. The research indicates the quantity situation of collection, acquisition policy, the way to select the material, the trend of ordering and providing, man power, the budget of acquisition, gifts and exchanging, weeding and inventory in 20 libraries by applying the measuring method. The end of research some suggestions for compiling a written policy, holding selection committee, concentrated orders by the belonging ministry, using specialized man power, dedicating independent and sufficient budget, applying the cooperation policies among the libraries and using modern technology in acquisition have been presented.
