The indexing process and its approaches in the organization of information
Author(s):
Abstract:
One of the most important methods of information organization, for optimal use of information, is indexing. Indexing is a complicated process and its understanding as a mental process is of considerable importance. This process includes extracting the concepts from the document and changing them to indexing terminology which aims to present a summary of the content of the document. In the present paper, the concept of the indexing process is discussed and then some of the more important approaches applied by indexers in the stages of indexing are evaluated. One of these approaches is called "response to questions". In this approach the indexer thinks, which questions the user of this document will have, that need to be responded to in this context.
