Preliminary estimating earthquake hazard in Izeh city, Khuzestan Province

Earthquake is main the problem in Izeh city (NE Khuzestan Province). This city is seismically an active area.The earthquakes with magnitude of 4 to 5 in Richter scale occurred in this region during 1382, 1383 and 1386. In order to evaluate the earthquake hazard in this area distribution of active faults was investigated. In this paper, the faults around Izeh city as far as 55 Km were studied. According to calculations, the magnitude of earthquake resulted from the activity of these faults range from 6 to 7.4 in Richter scale. The maximumhorizontal acceleration and vertical accelerations resulting from these earthquakes are 0.33 gand 0.16 g, respectively. Therefore, the problem of earthquake critical management and the process of urban development in Izeh area requires special attention.
