Review of Collection Development Policies in the libraries Of Research Center and Institutes affiliated with Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO)

The present study reviews the status of collection development policies in libraries of research centers and institutes overseen by the Agricultural Research, Education and Extensions. A survey method was employed. Information was collected by questionnaire sent out to 63 special libraries. 77.8 percent responded 41 percent of libraries studied had a collection development sections. 22.4 percent have a written policy and objective. 83.8 percent secure their their information resources through donations, while 30.7 percent use exchange. 40.8 percent vet their collections annually while 26 libraries (53/1 percent) dont do so. 53 percent lack a selection committee. Suggestions were offered in order to optimize and create a balanced and coordinated collection.
