The Comparison Loss of Insight in Mood Disorder at Admission and Discharge

Abstract:
The study’s aim that is a clinical trail and concentrated on cognitive problems in mentally ill patient was to examine insight in mood disorders in relation to type of mood episode(depression-mania), psychotic state(without psychotic symptoms, with mood-congruent psychotic symptoms, with moodincongruent psychotic symptoms), and insight change over the episode. Eighty-six hospitalized patients with psychiatric disorder (manic and major depressive episode) by clinician and psychiatrist were interviewed and assessed by SUMD in admission and discharge. Results shown that at admission,mania patients had more severe insight impairment that depressive ones. Depressive patients with psychosis had poorer insight than those without psychosis; and mania patients had poor insight irrespective of the presence of psychotic symptoms.At discharge, some insight impairment was observed in mania. As for of results concludes lack of insight and self-awareness defects was a prevalent condition in patients with psychotic depression and mania.
