The effect of treated wastewater on some of the Bermudagrass properties and soil salinity using subsurface and surface irrigation ethods

Water scarcity is one of the minatory factors of landscape creation. The wastewater is a new water source and its application requires special management. If wastewater appliedwith suitable irrigation methods, it helps to solve the environmental contaminations, sanitary and water scarcity problems. The effects of wastewater on some visual propertiesof bermudagrass and soil EC were investigated in 2005 at Mahmoudabad research centre located at Isfahan. The experiment was a factorial completely randomized design withtwo main treatments (surface and subsurface irrigation methods) and two sub- reatments (groundwater and wastewater) using three replications for each treatment. The results showed that wastewater application had no significant effect on the colour and density of bermudagrass. While the height and yield of bermudagrass irrigated with wastewater were significantly greater than those irrigated with groundwater. The irrigationmethod had no significant effect on bermudagrass properties. The results showed that subsurface irrigation significantly increases the EC of the first layer of soil (0-15 cm) as compared to the surface irrigation. In subsurface irrigation as compared to the surfaceirrigation, the EC of the second layer (15-30 cm) and third layer (30-60 cm) was less. Irrigation with groundwater increases the salinity of second and third layers as compared to the irrigation with wastewater. There is a significant difference between wastewater and groundwater in the second layer (P<0.05).
