Serum resistin and insulin resistance responses to long exercise training in absence to diet in middle-aged obese males
Background and
The adipocyte-derived hormones resistin play a key role in regulating energy homeostasis and metabolism. Ïn this study, we evaluated the role of mere long exercise training (without diet) on serum resistin and insulin resistance in middle-aged obese males.
 total 32 middle-aged obese males were divided to experimental and control groups by randomly. Fasting serum insulin, resistin and glucose was measured before and after three months exercise training or detraining in experimental or control groups respectively. Ïnsulin resistance calculated by using fasting glucose and insulin. Data analysis performed by an independent-paired T test. Âll P<0.05 were considered significant.
There were no differences in basal biochemical and anthropometrical variables between two groups (P≥0.05). Âll anthropometrical variables decreased after exercise intervention (P<0.05), but serum resistin and insulin resistance were remained without change in this subjects (P≥0.05).Çonclusion: Based on this data, it was concluded that exercise training in the absence of diet does not affect serum resistin on insulin resistance in obese subjects.
