Developing a model for happiness and joy in primary schools in Tehran

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors and components influencing happiness and joy in Tehran female primary schools from the teachers’ and principals’ points of view. The study was to develop a model eventually. The study applied a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative). The population consisted of all teachers and principals in Tehran schools (18،990). Cluster sampling was used to select the sample population (377 people). A researcher made questionnaire collected the data for the present and desired situation. Collected data were analyzed in two levels of descriptive statistics through central tendency measures and analytical statistics including chi-square، factorial analysis and Wilcoxon test. By reviewing relevant literature، 66 components and 4 factors (physical، social-emotional، individual and educational) were determined as effective factors. Findings indicated there was significant difference between present and desired situation from respondent's points of view، effective four factors in creating happiness and joy were physical، social-emotional، individual and educational (respectively). Furthermore، findings showed schools paid little attention to all four factors social-emotional، physical، individual and educational (respectively) in status quo. To improve the present situation، a model consisted of four sections (philosophy and goals، theoretical foundation، conceptual framework، and implementation procedures) was proposed.
