Investigation of Marshall, Resilient Modulus and Indirect Tensile Strength of A Cold Recycled Asphalt Mixture with Asphalt EmulsionContainingCement and Fiber (Polypropylene) as Additives

Message:
Abstract:
The global high volume of waste materials, such as waste fibers, are increasing and accumulatuing, andcause a lot of environmental problems. This materialhas been used for several years to enhance the behavioral characteristics of various materials, and has beenthe subject of many reseacrh studies. Through the years, the use of fiber to improve the properties of hot mix asphalt has been evaluated, which improves the behavioral characteristics of the Hot Mix Asphalt. However, there is a lack of investigation of fiberinclusion in cold recycled asphalt with bitumen emulsion. This study isinvestigating the performance of fibers in cold recycled asphalt and evaluates the results of the Marshall test, the Marshall stiffness index, the indirect tensile strength andthe resilient modulus. Fibers used in this study are Polypropylene fiber with a length of 6 mm. Experiments show that polypropylene fibers can improvethe Marshall Stiffness index, and result in greater resistance of the mixture against permanent deformation. In addition, the indirect tensile strength of the mixture and the resilient modulus are significantly changed compared with the conventional emulsion mixtures. Strategies for further study arealso suggested.
