    Objectives

    The present study aims to address the psychological motivations behind social media use, focusing on its under-explored regulatory function in the context of coping strategies and emotional regulation among teachers. This exploratory research explores the relationship between social media engagement and its impact on educators’ stress management and emotional regulation mechanisms.

    Methods

    To investigate this relationship, the study utilized two key instruments: The coping inventory for stressful situations and the Italian version of the difficulties in emotion regulation scale. These tools were administered to a sample of 214 Italian teachers, predominantly female (90.7%), with ages ranging from 25 to 65 years (Mean±SD 47.19±9.02 years). The study employed correlation analysis to assess the associations between social media use in addition to various coping and emotional regulation strategies.

    Results

    The correlation analysis revealed a nuanced relationship between the usage of certain social media platforms and a higher inclination toward a problem-oriented coping style, alongside a decreased sense of a lack of negative emotional control. Accordingly, while social media can serve as a tool for problem-oriented coping, it may also hinder the ability to disengage from negative emotional states.

    Discussion

    The results of this study shed light on the potential of social media as a resource and a challenge in the emotional and professional lives of teachers. By identifying specific coping strategies that are positively and negatively associated with social media use, the research points toward possible interventions that could mitigate the adverse effects of social media. This could include developing targeted support mechanisms to enhance teachers’ ability to manage stress and regulate emotions effectively, thereby optimizing their use of social media in a way that supports their psychological well-being.

    Objectives

    In urgent situations, like those experienced by the Nour Association, individuals often turn to their ethnocultural backgrounds and ingrained coping mechanisms to enhance their psychological and overall well-being.

    Methods

    This study employed a dual-analytical approach. Initially, participant observation was used to understand the day-to-day activities within the Nour Center’s authentic environment. Subsequently, three cognitive theories—conceptual metaphor, schema, and frame theory were applied to analyze and interpret the transformation in the patients’ conceptual systems comprehensively. 

    Results

    We detected that the patient community at the Nour Center utilized various socio-cultural practices (drama roleplay, peer-support therapy, and task-shifting) to create an improvised, theory-independent recovery program focused on ‘awakening’ and ‘self-empowerment’. These latter were mediated by higher-order meta-cognitive processes, such as ‘self-regulation’ and ‘self-description’, frames, such as ‘the home frame’ and ‘the hospital frame’, and schemata, such as ‘the function schema’, which are foundational to ‘cultural placebos’.

    Discussion

    The present findings established that both general health and mental health are significantly shaped by societal influences, indicating that cultural therapy emerges from the intricate dynamics of sub-cultural social systems. Ultimately, concepts of illness and recovery are subject to cultural negotiation.

    Objectives

    Ankle orthoses are one of the interventions used to prevent first and repeated lateral ankle sprains. We conducted this systematic review of the literature to investigate the effect of ankle orthoses on postural control in individuals with acute, chronic, or functional ankle sprains.

    Methods

    Three electronic databases (Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science) were searched for experimental studies using predefined keywords. We used the PRISMA method to select articles. Initially, the articles were examined for inclusion criteria and then assessed for their quality based on the physiotherapy evidence database scale.

    Results

    In the initial search, we retrieved 156 articles. After following the steps of the PRISMA flowchart and reviewing the entire text, only 14 reports met the inclusion criteria of this study. We extracted data from population, intervention, and outcome measures.

    Discussion

    Overall, ankle orthoses were effective in improving the static postural control of patients with lateral ankle sprains; however, the dynamic postural control results were unclear. Since most people who experience lateral ankle sprains have both functional and mechanical instability, ankle orthoses may affect both types of instability and thereby improve postural control.

    Background

    Despite the known advantages of mammography, screening rates among Hispanic American women are lower compared to other ethnic groups. Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to explore correlates of mammography screening behavior among a sample of Hispanic women aged 45-54 years living in the United States using the multi-theory model (MTM).

    Methods

    A 50-item web-based survey consisting of psychometrically valid tools based on MTM theoretical framework was administered through non-random sampling procedures using Qualtrics. Univariate, bivariate, and multivariate statistics were used to analyze the data.

    Results

    Out of 370 participants, nearly 49% (n=189) reported not having a mammogram in the past two years. The mean age of the sample was 48.8±2.8 years. A greater proportion of participants who have had a mammogram reported having health insurance compared to those who have not had a mammogram (93.1% vs. 75.7%, P<0.001). Results of hierarchical regression suggest that all MTM constructs, including participatory dialogue, behavioral confidence, and changes in the physical environment explained 33.4% of variance in initiating mammography behavior among those who have not had a mammogram. Similarly, practice for change, emotional transformation, and changes in the social environment explained 53% of the variance in sustenance of the behavior change.

    Conclusion

    Along with the MTM subscales, this study points to the important correlates such as health insurance and messaging by healthcare providers to promote the mammography seeking behavior among Hispanic women.
