River basins perform the crucial role of providing water resources, especially in arid regions. Due to the nature of interconnection, human interventions and natural events will cause cumulative impacts on the downstream parts of river basins. The aim of this research is to identify and evaluate the impacts of interventions and changes occurring in the upstream of the Tigris-Euphrates River Basin on the downstream parts and provide strategies to reduce and control those effects. To achieve this purpose, multi-scaled investigation of the changes and dynamics of the land cover was performed and the causes and consequences of these changes were investigated using the Driving force-Pressure-Sate-Impact-Response (DPSIR) framework. The results displayed an increase in the area of artificial lakes and agricultural lands and a decline in the area of rangelands and natural wetlands, especially in the downstream of the basin. The state of the ecosystem was under the influence of Driving forces such as population and industrial growth and political competitions of the littoral states, which led to pressure on the limited water resources and development of water management and control projects. The overall trends of changes in the state of the environment had created impacts on the ecosystem and communities that required urgent responses from the riparian countries. Finally, to foster water cooperation instead of non-constructive completions in this region, a framework was developed with an emphasis on creating a union of riparian countries and using their scientific potentials to provide effective and impartial solutions.

Nowadays, the growing population is demanding freshwater resources, and the availability of water influence the population distribution and its activities. Groundwater sources such as springs and wells are the major source of water for drinking, agricultural, and industrial consumptions. However, water resources are always exposed to industrial, agricultural, and residential pollutions. In the current study, water samples were collected from twenty-two springs sources from February to October 2017 in Amadiya districts, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The physicochemical characteristics including temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biological oxygen demand (BOD5), electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness (TH), calcium hardness (Ca2), magnesium hardness (Mg2), turbidity (NTU), total alkalinity (TA), and nitrate (NO3-) of the samples were analyzed. The findings showed that most of the water samples were within the permissible limits for drinking usage according to WHO (World Health Organization) standards, while few samples were without the permissible level for TDS and EC. Also, higher concentrations of TDS and EC reported for some samples attributed to agricultural and residential contamination, which require water treatment for drinking purposes. The statistical analysis illustrated an acceptable correlation between analysis.

تعیین مکان مناسب جهت دفن زباله موضوعی است که نیاز به معیارهای مختلفی در گروه های مختلف زیست محیطی، اقتصادی و اجتماعی دارد. در این تحقیق سامانه اطلاعات جغرافیایی و آنالیز تصمیم گیری چند معیاره برای مکانیابی دفن زباله در شهر جوانرود به کار گرفته شد. بدین منظور فاکتورهای مختلف در دو گروه معیارهای زیست محیطی و معیارهای اقتصادی اجتماعی شامل فاصله از منابع آب زیر زمینی، فاصله از منابع آب سطحی، فاصله از مناطق مسکونی، فاصله از گسل، وضعیت زمین شناسی منطقه، فاصله از مناطق حفاظت شده، کاربری اراضی، جهت غالب باد و فاصله از جاده به عنوان معیارهای تاثیر گذار در مکان یابی دفن زباله در نظر گرفته شدند. بعد از تعیین معیارها، نقشه هر کدام از این معیارها در محیط GIS تهیه شد. به دلیل اینکه نقشه هر کدام از معیارها دارای مقیاس متفاوتی هستند، با روش فازی کلیه نقشه ها استاندارد سازی شدند و با استفاده از روش تحلیل سلسله مراتبی وزن دهی بین معیارها صورت گرفت. در نهایت نقشه های استاندارد سازی شده با در نظر گرفتن وزن و اهمیت آنها روی هم گذاری شدند و نقشه نهایی تناسب اراضی تهیه گردید. نقشه نهایی در 5 کلاس شامل طبقه نامناسب، تناسب ضعیف، تناسب کم، تناسب متوسط، تناسب زیاد، تناسب خیلی زیاد طبقه بندی شد. نتایج نشان داد از کل منطقه مورد مطالعه تنها 15 درصد توان متوسط به بالایی برای دفن زباله دارد. پس از بازدید میدانی در نهایت دو محدوده به عنوان مناطق نهایی، جهت دفن بهداشتی زباله به شهرداری پیشنهاد داده شدند.کلید واژگان: مکان یابی, دفن زباله, GIS, WLC, شهرستان جوانرودDetermining the location of landfill sites is a difficult and complex process because it is necessary to consider different factors and criteria in the landfill sitting process. In this study, in order to consider all parameters, a combination of Geographic Information System (GIS) and the Multi Criteria Evaluation (MCE) was used for landfill site selection in Javanrood County. For the purpose of making decisions in landfill site selection different parameters have been identified, including distance to groundwater, distance to surface water, land cover, distance to urban and rural areas, land uses, distance to roads, slope, distance to faults and geology type. Each criterion was evaluated with the aid of AHP and mapped by GIS. Then, the layer was standardized and the relative importance of criteria to each other was determined by an analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Weighted Linear Combination (WLC) method was applied to evaluate the land suitability. Data were assorted into four suitability classes within the study area, i.e., high, moderate, low and very low suitability areas. Based on the results, 15% was determined to be suitable for a landfill site. GIS-Based Multi Criteria Evaluation for Thermal Power Plant Site Selection in Kahnuj County, SE IranChoosing a location for a power plant site is a complex task that involves evaluation of multiple factors, which should satisfy a number of economic and environmental requirements. The main aim of this study is to determine the best possible candidates for thermal power plant sites using Multi-criteria Evaluation and Geographic Information System (GIS) in Kahnuj County in the southeast of Iran. First, the affecting factors to find the best sites for power plant establishment were identified including socio-economic and environmental factors. Each criterion was mapped in the GIS environment. Then, the layers were standardized and the relative weights of these layers were determined. Finally, weighted information layers were consolidated by Weighed Linear Combination approaches in GIS environment and the suitable locations were selected and ranked accordingly. The final index maps were grouped in five categories ranging from no suitability to high stability with an equal interval classification method.
