Neonatal sepsis refers to the bacterial bloodstream infections of the newborn during the neonatal period as usually the first twenty-eight days of life. The current study was done in the laboratories of AL-Batool Teaching Hospital for Gynecology and Pediatrics in Baqubah, Diyala Governorate, including 140 blood specimens collected from the neonates admitted to the hospital with suspected sepsis, the ages of the both groups was ranged from 1 day to 28 days. Out of the total cultured samples, 32.14% (45 of 140) were positive and 67.86% (95 of 140) were negative blood culture. 45 of 140 samples were negative to the blood culture chosen as control group. The results showed highest isolates were Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus (CoNS) 19 (42.2%), followed by Staphylococcus aureus 11 (24.5%), Escherichia coli 4 (8.8%), Klebsiella pneumonia 4 (8.8%), Acinetobacter baumannii 3 (6.7%), Group B Streptococcus (GBS), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 2 (4.5%). Ceftazidime antibiotic has the highest resistance percentage followed by CIP, CXM, AMP, NA, C, CD, and CL among the studied bacterial isolates. Biofilm formation of isolates showed all bacterial isolates of K. pneumonia, A.baumannii, P.aeruginosa, and GBS  by 100% can form biofilm, while the isolates of S.aureus, CoNS and E.coli were 6 (53.55%), 7 (36.84%), and 2 (50%) biofilm forming, respectively. These biofilm-forming isolates exhibited high resistance to AK, AMC, TM, CTX, NE, VAN, COT, CL, CAZ, AMP, NA, C, and CIP.

Theobroma Cacao has a wide range against a range of diseases and an antimicrobial activity toward various pathogenic microorganisms which estimated of medicinal properties for the treatment of many infectious diseases. The aim of the research is to clarify the inhibitory action of Theobroma Cacao extract against human pathogenic bacteria also show the mechanism action of extract against biofilm formation and adherence of bacteria. The antimicrobial activity of the aqueous extract was tested based on agar-well diffusion assay and agar-disc diffusion, and this activity was compared with the antibiotic and measured which is more efficient. Furthermore, biofilm formation and adherence tests were done. Theobroma cacao (30%) was appeared in this research as high efficient against the wide spectrum of clinic isolates gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria (K.pneumonia, P.merabilis, P.vulgaris, S.typhimurum, S.typhi,, Staph. aureus, Staph.epidermidis, Staph.saprophytics and Strep.Pyogenes) which indicates that it is more effective than commercially available antibiotic in addition to a high inhibition against adherents and biofilm formation.

Streptococcus mutans is a harmful bacterium that destroys teeth and increases the development of caries. The use of a safe antibacterial compound can decrease the population of S. mutans and increase teeth healthiness. Curcumin is an antibacterial compound that may decrease S. mutans. The present study was conducted to evaluate the antibacterial effects of the administration of curcumin against S. mutans. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of tested extracts were determined by a micro-dilution method using a 96-well microliter plate. Biofilm formation was also investigated. In order to investigate dental caries development a study was conducted on rats. The results showed antibacterial activity of curcumin against S. mutans in terms of MIC and MBC compared to the control group (P<0.05). The results also revealed that biofilm formation was significantly lower in higher doses of curcumin. The administration of curcumin also decreased dental caries development in rats. In sum, curcumin can be considered as an appropriate compound for antibacterial activity against S. mutans. We suggest using curcumin for tooth care.

Quorum sensing (QS) is a bacterial communication mechanism that regulates the production of many pathogenic factors, including the formation of pigments and the ability to form biofilms that are essential for chronic infections. For discovering new inhibitors on the formation of biofilm formation, over 700 synthetic and natural compounds have been virtually screened against the triphenyl-LasR enzyme involved in Pseudomonas aeruginosa’s QS system. The 3D-QSAR studies revealed the relationship between the quantitative structure of compounds and their activity. The drug-like properties of compounds and effective pharmacophore features on the ligand interaction with protein were investigated by ADME and E-pharmacophore analysis. According to the obtained results, we identified compound with PubChem ID 118732838 with the glide score of -12.34 kcal/mol and oral absorption of 58.75% as the potential compound for inhibiting triphenyl-LasR protein. The study outcomes can help us to identify new drugs to inhibit biofilm formation and decrease bacterial resistance.
