The Effect of Roselle Calyx Extract and Nano-ZnO Biofilm on Walnut's Chemical and Sensory PropertiesBionanocomposite active films made from tapioca starch and bovine gelatin, with the addition of roselle calyx extract (RCE) and zinc oxide nanorod (ZnO-N), were created as packaging material to protect walnuts against mold, yeast contamination, and lipid oxidation. Three types of packaging were produced: tapioca starch and bovine gelatin (control sample), tapioca starch, bovine gelatin, and RCE, and tapioca starch, bovine gelatin, ZnO-N, and RCE. Approximately 30 grams of walnuts were packed using each type of packaging and evaluated for acidity value, mold and yeast count, peroxide value, and sensory tests. After 90 days, the mold and yeast count of walnuts packed with RCE/ZnO-N and RCE was 4.49 and 4.65 log cfu/g respectively, compared to 4.95 log cfu/g in the control sample. At the end of the conservation period, the aroma score was 3.59 for walnuts packed with RCE/ZnO-N, compared to 2.5 for those packed with tapioca starch and bovine gelatin. The acidity value indicated that walnuts packed with RCE and RCE/ZnO-N had a positive effect on acidity, with the lowest value found in walnuts packed with RCE/ZnO-N. The study showed that bionanocomposite packaging films containing RCE and ZnO-N are effective in protecting walnuts against fungal contamination and oxidation. Keywords: Bionanocomposite film, Biopackaging, free radicals, Fungal growth, Oxidation reaction

Application of sulfur to control the common pistachio psylla has been nowadays popular. The psylla is one of the main pistachios’ pests. Aspergillus flavus, the most important aflatoxin producer, has a strong impact in the mycoflora of pistachio orchards. The present study has been conducted to determine the effects of sulfur on A. flavus. Therefore, a toxigenic A. flavus strain was cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium, and the effects of mineral sulfur, refinery sulfur and sodium metabisulfite were closely monitored on fungal mycelial dry weight, germination of spores, germ tube and mycelium germination. The Fungal parameters measurement for sulfur vapor exposure and sulfur addition to the culture medium declared no significant effect on the growth of A. flavus mycelium in the direct addition. But sulfur in liquid medium as well as in high concentrations caused mycelial dry weight loss. Importantly, the sublimation of 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 and 50 gm-3 from the refinery sulfur, prevented completely the growth of germinated spores and mycelial. Significantly, the complete inhibition of spore germination was observed at a concentration level of 2 g m-3 and also sodium metabisulfite prevented the growth of A. flavus at a concentration of 15 g l-1 culture medium. The sulfur usage in culture medium declared no inhibition of A. flavus growth, but at high concentrations in liquid medium, it reduced mycelial dry weight. Therefore, it is found that the sulfur application in any kind to control of psylla would not probably effect significantly on the aflatoxigenic A. flavus. Keywords: Food Safety, Fungal growth, Mycelium weight, Mycotoxin, sporulation

In order to study the effects of fungal growth and amount of vermicompost on yield components herb Echinacea purpurea, a pot experiment was conducted in a research station of mazandaran province(amol) during 2014 growsing season. The experimental treatments were arranged as split plots based on a randomized complete block design with three replications. Factors in this study were including fungal growth(Glomus intraradices and Gigaspora margarita, combinations of two fungi and control) and amount of vermicompost (0%,25%,50%,75%,100%),The results showed that use of fungal tretments and amounts of vermicompot were significant at 1% on traits of herb height, canopy size, flower diameter, shoot fresh and dry weight, root length and specific root weight of herb Echinacea purpurea. Use of combinations of mycorizal fungi and vermicompost was significant at 1% on specific root weight and was significant at 5% on root fresh and dry weight. Use of amounts of vermicompot were non-significant on root fresh and dry weight and root volume. The highest root length(43/68 cm) was observed in control treatment (without use of vermicompost) and the shortest root length (31/84cm) was observed in treatment of 75%vermicompost.The highest shoot dry weight(12/79 gr) was obtained by combinations of two fungi and the fewest shoot dry weight(9/26 gr) was obtained in control treatment, wthout use of fungi. The highest root volume (60/27 cm3) was obtained by applying 25%vermiccompost and without use of fungi. and the fewest root volume (24/75 cm3) was obtained by applying Glomus intraradices and 75% vermicompost. The highest shoot fresh and dry weight and root fresh and dry weight and specific root weight were obtained by applying combinations of two fungi and 75-100% vermicompost. finally use of combinations of two fungi and 100%vermiopost has been abled to improve 45% herb hight than control herb. Keywords: purple cone flower (Echinacea purpurea), fungal growth, vermicompost, yield
