This study analyzed the stomach contents of Chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus, collected from purse seine and set net fisheries samples in the South Sea of Korea in March 2020 to February 2022 for juvenile, mature, and older fish, which are useful to identify ecosystem functions and study food competition, interspecific feeding relationships, and the food web. The size of S. japonicus samples ranged from 5.5 to 46.6 cm in fork length. S. japonicus were a carnivore that feed mainly on euphausiids and pisces. The estimated average trophic level of S. japonicus ranged from 3.65±0.64 to 4.00±0.78. Examination of the feeding habits according to ontogenic feeding patterns of S. japonicus revealed that the mean weight of prey (mW/ST) continuously increased. There were differences in the composition of the stomach contents of S. japonicus by the sampling period and size class, and also the interaction between them. S. japonicus were specialized feeders with pisces and euphausiids as their dominant prey.

The juvenile Oplegnathus fasciatus were collected off the Gijang, Korea coast. A total of 203 juvenile O. fasciatus were examined, and the range of total length (TL) was 7.9-31.0 mm. The most important prey component of O. fasciatus was Copepods, with 75.0% in IRI (index of relative importance) index. Among Copepods, Paracalanus parvus s.l. in the Calanoida was the most significant dietary component. Cladocera was the second important prey component. Pisces, Amphipoda, Decapoda, and the other preys accounted for less than 1.8% of the diet by IRI index. The feeding strategy showed that O. fasciatus held a specialist niche with a considerable individual specialization. The result of analysis in ontogenetic changes was significantly exhibited among size classes. The proportion of Copepods decreased as increasing in body size, whereas the consumption of Cladocera, Pisces, Amphipoda, and Decapoda increased gradually. As body size increased, both the mean numbers of prey per gut (mN/Gut) and the mean volume of prey per gut (mV/Gut) constantly increased.

This study was conducted to determine the feeding and reproductive biology of Saurida tumbil and Rastrelliger kanagurta in the northern Oman Sea in 2020 -21. A total of 134 and 157 specimens of S. tumbil and R. kanagurta were collected from landing sites of Sistan and Baluchistan waters, respectively. The results of S. tumbil feeding analysis showed that the main diets of this species are fishes, mollusks and shrimps. Gastric emptying index (CV) indicated that this species was highly fed in winter and was identified as a gluttonous species. The results show the lowest value of Gonado-Somatic Index (GSI) in spring and the highest in summer. The reproduction of S. tumbil occurred after summer. Length (TL) at first maturity (LM50) for this species was estimated to be about 37.9 cm. The Food Preference (Fp) index showed that the main diets of R. kanagurta are phytoplankton and algae and CV reaches its maximum value in autumn. GSI of this species also shows the lowest level in spring and the highest in summer, which indicates that the peak of reproduction of R. kanagurta occurred after summer. Length (TL) at first maturity (LM50) for this species estimated to be about 25.2 cm.

Bioaccumulation and distribution of heavy metal (Se, As and Pb) in muscle, gill and hepatopancreas of blue crab Portunus pelagicus from Bushehr coast, north part of the Persian Gulf, were investigated. Analyses of samples were by a GBC-932 AA Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The average concentrations of Se, Pb and As in all tissues of crab were 0.485, 1.89 and 0.615 µg g-1 respectively. The linear regression analysis showed there were a positive correlation between heavy metal levels and crab size. Also, there was a direct relationship between heavy metals levels in tissues crabs with feeding habitat. Comparison between male and female indicated that the average of heavy metal concentrations in female crabs were higher than those in the male crab, because female crabs feed on benthic animal that are close to bottom sediment and receives more sediment associated metals.

The Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta, Cuvier, 1817) is one of the commercial small pelagic fish in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea. In the current research, feed preference index (FP), fullness index (FI), and stomach contents of Rastrelliger kanagurta were evaluated to assess the quantity and type of feed habits. A total of 573 specimens were collected randomly from Bandar - Abbas and Qeshm Island fishing sites from November 2011 to October 2012. The minimum and maximum total lengths were 13.9 and 35.5cm, respectively with the highest frequency in length group of 24-26cm. Results showed that 21.3% of stomachs were full, 44.5% were semi-full and 34.2% were empty. Planktons and fish were the main and random feed items of this species respectively. Fullness index and Vacuity index for this species were calculated 21.3 and 34.2, respectively. Stomach contents analysis revealed that phytoplankton (66%) and zooplankton (34%) form the main feed of Rastrelliger kanagurta. Among the phytoplankton, Bacillariophyceae (86%) was the dominant feed followed by Cyanophyceae (8%) and Dynophyceae (6%). Copepods (88%) were dominant zooplanktonic feed items. Encrasicholina punctifer was the only bony fish observed. Maximum and minimum of GaSI index were estimated 2.57 and 1.12 in October and February, respectively. Condition factor and relative guts length were calculated 1.76 and 2.38, respectively. The results indicated that this fish is a relatively frugal species which consumes plankton as the main feed.

Snow trout (S. zarudnyi) is a commercial, ecological and biological valuable species which is native to the southeastern Iran (Sistan). In this study, 41 samples of Snow trout were caught by gill net from Chah nimeh reservoirs, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, and their biological characteristic were investigated. The results showed that the average weight and length of fish were 121.70±57.07g and 22.35± 3.49cm, respectively. The sexual ratio in Snow trout was 1:1.16 (male: female), and the gonadosomatic Index (GSI) of female was 1.08±0.74%. Moreover, the maximum and minimum percentage of GSI was reported in March (1.75%) and May (0.84%), respectively. The changes in the percentage of GSI indicated that the sexual maturity and breeding season of this fish happened in March. The average relative and absolute fecundity recorded was 33140 ± 1905.65 egg/kg and 26964±1001/97 eggs, respectively. The condition factor (CF) was 1.01±0.12 %, and the maximum and minimum amount of CF was reported in March and May, 1.30% and 0.76%, respectively. The relative gut length (RLG), as the ratio of intestine length to body length was 1.73±0.30. Consequently, considering the amount of RLG which was more than one, Snow trout categorized as omnivorous with herbivorous tendency. The average of feeding intensity (IF) was 180.64±108.99%, and the maximum and minimum of IF was found in May and February, 480.54 and 43.02%, respectively. Finally, the relationship between the length and weight for the species was recorded as W=0.0058L3.177 with r=0.98. The b-value as coefficient of WLR indicates that the growth of Snow trout is isometric.

The feeding habits and trophic level of Himantura gerrardi were studied according to sex and size classes of 80 individuals obtained using bottom trawl between May and December 2014 from the Oman Sea. Collected specimens were divided into three size classes (small58 cm) based on disk width. Prey was identified in seven main zoological categories, where crustacean and polychaetes were the dominant in diets, indicating this species is a demersal dwelling species. No significant differences were observed between sexes, but size classes showed significant differences in their diets. Also, results showed a decrease in feeding overlap between size classes with an increase in disk width, suggesting that intraspecific competition reduced, which allows the coexistence of different size classes. Trophic level was positively correlated with the disk width, which was lower than 4.0 for both sexes and different size classes, placing it in an intermediate trophic level.
