کلید واژگان: آنومالی های دندانی, ضایعات استخوانی, رادیوگرافی پانورامیک, یافته های تصادفی, فکین}Journal of Shaeed Sdoughi University of Medical Sciences Yazd, Volume:30 Issue: 6, 2022, PP 4959 -4972IntroductionEarly treatment of dental anomalies and oral/dental lesions can prevent maxillofacial abnormalities and other complications. Since in most cases these lesions are asymptomatic, they are often discovered randomly in different radiographic images. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the incidental findings on digital panoramic radiographs of referrals to Maxillofacial Radiology Department of Yazd Dental School.
MethodsIn this descriptive cross-sectional study, 1949 panoramic radiographs of patients referred to the Department of Maxillofacial Radiology of Yazd Dental School in Apr 2019_ Apr 2020 were studied. Age, gender, type of lesion / anomaly, position and jaw involved were recorded in the study information form. Data analysis was performed via SPSS16 statistical software and Chi-square test.
ResultsA total of 2915 lesions / anomalies were diagnosed. The frequency of these lesions / anomalies was higher in men (57.5%), middle-aged people (48.6%), mandible (69.3%) and left side of the jaws (76.8%). There was a statistically significant difference in the presence of lesion / anomaly in terms of age, sex, side and jaw involved (P-value = 0.0001).
ConclusionConsidering the frequency of random findings in panoramic radiographs, it seems that this radiography is useful for detecting many lesions and dental anomalies in the initial examination of patients. It is recommended that dentists examine the radiographs more carefully.

Journal of Dentistry, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Volume:18 Issue: 4, Dec 2017, PP 259 -264Statement of the Problem: It is necessary for surgeons and practitioners to know about relative incidence and clinicopathologic features of lesions for accurate diagnosis and approach of pathologic lesions. Data are limited about overall incidence of intra-osseous lesions of the jaws in Iranian patients.PurposeThis study evaluated the clinicopathologic features of intra- osseous lesions of the jaws in an Iranian population, in a 22-year period.Materials And MethodIn this cross- sectional retrospective analytical study, 4500 specimens in a 22- year period were reviewed. Baseline data of all patients with intra- osseous lesions including type and location of lesions as well as patients age and gender, were collected and analyzed by SPSS software using descriptive analysis and Chi-square test.ResultsThere were 1121 (25%) intra-osseous lesion. Odontogenic cysts and benign non- odontogenic bone lesions were the most common categories, respectively. The mean age of the patients was 30.1±16, the total male to female ratio was 1.1:1, and the most prevalent location of lesions was posterior of mandible.ConclusionThe results showed baseline information of intra-osseous lesions that were essentially similar to other populations; however, there were a few geographical differences. Further comprehensive studies in other parts of country are required to make a more reliable source of reference for clinicians and surgeons for evaluating and managing their patients more properly.Keywords: Bone lesions, Prevalence, Jaws, Odontogenic cysts, Odontogenic tumors}

BackgroundLangerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease in which monoclonal migration and proliferation of specific dendritic cells is seen. The disease primarily affects the bones and skin, but there is a possibility that involves other organs or appears as a multi-systemic disease.
Case Report: In oral examination of a nine-month girl, two deep wounds with a yellow membrane with approximate size of 1 × 1 cm on both sides of mandibular alveolar ridge were seen. The edges of the wounds were swollen and proliferated and redder than the surrounding mucosa. At the touch the edges of the wound were not indurated. The wound were created from the third-month and the size of wounds had become slightly larger within 6 months. According to the chronic wound and being non-responsive to various systemic and local treatments, incisional biopsy was taken from the wounds. Langerhans cell histiocytosis was confirmedhistologically and immune histochemically.ConclusionMouth ulcers may be the only symptoms of Langerhans cell histiocytosis. Therefore, the role of dentist could be important in diagnosis of this disease.Keywords: Bone lesions, Granulomatous gingivitis, Infants, Langerhans cell histiocytosis, Periodontitis}
