Background
Environmental pollutants, such as plastic-derived substances Bisphenol-A and Di-butyl phthalate have been linked to an increase in the occurrence of human health hazards, including dysmetabolic syndrome, i.e., insulin resistance, and organ toxicity. In this syndrome, concurrent risk factors can give rise to cardiovascular disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the toxic effects of certain plastic compounds against kidneys and liver, and the potential protective role of rutin in rat. Rutin is a natural anti-inflammatory supplement that improves blood circulation and metabolic functions, lowers cholesterol and reduce arthritis pain.
MethodsEighteen rats were divided randomly into three groups of six each and were treated for 28 days as follows: 1) Control (0.1% DMSO); 2) Bisphenol-A and Dibutyl phthalate, and 3) Bisphenol-A, Dibutyl phthalate and rutin. At the completion of the experimental period, the rats’ hepatic and renal toxicity biomarkers, redox status and lipid profile were measured.
ResultsBased the experimental findings, the toxicity of plastic substances increased in gamma-glutamyl transferase, urea, renal MDA and significant reductions in SOD and CAT activities, compared to those of the controls. The total plasma cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels increased. The hepatic total cholesterol, LDL, FFA, TG levels increased. The HDL decreased while the total cholesterol, TG and LDL levels increased in the kidney. However, these biochemical alterations improved significantly by administering rutin supplement to the rats that were pretreated with the plastic compounds.
ConclusionsFlavonoid, rutin, demonstrated hepato-renal protective effect against the toxic effects of plastic compounds.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is a phthalic acid ester and is widely used in polymeric products to make them more flexible. DBP is found in almost every plastic material and is believed to be persistent in the environment. Various analytical methods have been used to measure DBP in different matrices. Considering the ubiquitous nature of DBP, the most important challenge in DBP analyses is the contamination of even analytical grade organic solvents with this compound and lack of availability of a true blank matrix to construct the calibration line. Standard addition method or using artificial matrices reduce the precision and accuracy of the results. In this study a surrogate analyte approach that is based on using deuterium labeled analyte (DBP-d4) to construct the calibration line was applied to determine DBP in hexane samples.Keywords: phthalic acid esters, dibutyl phthalate, phthalates, surrogate analyte, GC-MS

سابقه و هدفپلی اتیلن ترفتالات PET (Poly ethylene terephthalate) از پرکاربردترین ظروف در صنعت بسته بندی و غذا است. با وجود ویژگی های مناسب، ترکیبات موجود در ساختار بسپار ممکن است به داخل ماده ی غذایی مهاجرت کنند که تجمع این مواد در بدن انسان سبب بروز مشکلاتی در سلامتی می گردد.مواد و روش ها27 نمونه یک لیتری گلاب تهیه شد و در دماهای 4، 25 و C ̊42 و زمان های 2 روز، 2 هفته و 2 ماه، میزان مهاجرت فتالات ها به وسیله کروماتوگرافی گازی- طیف سنج جرمی (GC-MS) با سه تکرار به روش میکرو استخراج مایع مایع کمک شده با هواAir assisted liquid liquid micro extraction(AALLME) اندازه گیری شد.یافته هابا افزایش دما از 4 به C ̊25، میزان مهاجرت دی متیل فتالات DMP (Di methyl phthalate)و دی بوتیل فتالات DBP Di butyl phthalate)) در روز دوم به ترتیب از 76/14 به 55/19 و از 90/131 به 6/ 149 ppb افزایش یافت؛ با افزایش دوباره دما به C ̊42، میزان مهاجرت به ترتیب به میزان 62/5 و 4/29 ppb دیگر افزایش یافت. در نهایت، در انتهای ماه دوم مهاجرت DMP و DBP به ترتیب در دمای 4، 25 و 42 درجه سانتی گراد به 6/38، 45/49، 50/64 و 7/193، 1 /201 و 7/258 ppb رسید. مهاجرت کلی نیز mg/dm 2 7/1 بود.نتیجه گیریظروف PET برای نگهداری گلاب مناسب نیستند. همچنین اندازه گیری مهاجرت در ظروف شیشه ای نشان داد که مخازن پلاستیکی که عرقیاتی مانند گلاب را در آن نگهداری می کنند، نیز از عوامل مهم در مهاجرت فتالات ها است؛ بنابراین توصیه می شود برای ارتقای سلامت جامعه از مخازنی از جنس استیل زنگ نزن یا ظروف شیشه ای استفاده شودکلید واژگان: مهاجرت, دی متیل فتالات, دی بوتیل فتالات, گلاب, پلی اتیلن ترفتالات (PET)Background And ObjectivesPolyethylene terephthalate (PET) is one of the most widely used containers in both the packaging and food industries. Despite having convenient features, components of the PET polymer structure may migrate into food, and the accumulation of PET in the human body may cause health problems.
Material andMethods27 samples of rose water with 1 liter volume were collected from one of the factories of Fars Province, Iran. Levels of monomer migration were measured by gas chromatographymass spectrometry (GC-MS) with three repetitions at 4, 25 and 42 °C temperatures and at 2-day, 2-week and 2-month timings using the air assisted liquid liquid micro-extraction method.ResultsOn the second day, with an increase of temperature from 4˚C to 25˚C, the migrations of dimethyl phthalate (DMP) and di-butyl phthalate (DBP) increased from 14.76 to 24.55 ppb and 131.9 to 149.6 ppb, respectively. When increasing the temperature further to 42 °C, the migration levels increased 8.9 and 29.4 ppb, respectively. Finally, at the end of the second month, migration of DMP and DBP at 4, 25 and 42 °C reached 38.6, 67.8 and 83.05 ppb & 173.7, 181.1 and 268.7 ppb, respectively.ConclusionPET containers are not suitable for storing distillates. Additionally, measuring migration in glass containers has demonstrated that the plastic reservoirs, in which distillates are stored are important factors in monomer migration. Therefore, in order to raise public health levels, it is recommended that alternative reservoirs made of glass and stainless steel be used.Keywords: Migration, Dimethyl phthalate, Dibutyl phthalate, Rose water, PET
